New Years Resolution
Wow! Can you believe its another new year, 2009 to be exact! The year of flying cars and living like the Jetsons, I wish but I guess we have to wait for 2010. As the new year begins I have been hearing lots of talk about New Years Resolutions. I even spoke on this topic at our College Ministry @HCWO.com.
What does resolution even mean?
• resolve or determination: to make a firm resolution to do something.
• the act of resolving or determining upon an action or course of action, method, procedure, etc.
• the mental state or quality of being resolved or resolute; firmness of purpose.
To resolve, determine upon an action, firmness of purpose. To decide to do something, to change in this new year.
We probably all have various types of resolutions. To get in better shape, to read the Word more, to pray more, to start eating better, to start being more friendly etc. All great resolutions but one that I want to remind us of is the first New Years Resolution. Gods New Years Resolution.
Genesis 1:1 “In the Beginning God…”
Lets not read that so quickly… In…The…Beginning…God! Let me break this down in the original language. In means In, The means The, Beginning means Beginning. Before you, before me, before us…rewind time to the point earth is simply a pile of dirt, before planets, before creation, before space, before time… in the beginning…God!
God created everything and it was good! Imagine that…the world, nature, people, animals and it was good!
But then something happened. Gen3:1-9
The moment that happened everything changed. From Adam and Eves rebellion everything started to become opposite of good.
God could of easily said oh that was pretty wack (greek word for bad) … oh well, whatever will be will be. But thank God he didn’t! From the beginning of the fall he made a New Years Resolution.
Resolution to Restore His Relationship with Mankind and Resolution to Restore His Kingdom (Community)
One passage that really speaks about this is:
2 Cor 5:17-20 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who though Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation that is in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us”
As God restores our relationship he restores our duty to restore the kingdom with the message of reconciliation through not only our words but also our deeds.
As this new year begins take time and remember Gods New Years Resolution.
